Directions to Lac des Petites Truites

You should print these directions & map to the Westeinde cottage (217 chemin du grand poisson blanc, Lac Ste-Marie, QC, J0X 1Z0). You might lose cellular reception as you approach our lake, so you can't rely on your smartphone to get you in.

The trip takes about 75 minutes from the Portage bridge in Ottawa if there is no traffic & the roads are good.

The simple directions are follow Hwy 5N to Hwy 105N to chemin du Lac Ste. Marie. Follow the signs to the Mont Ste. Marie (MSM) resort. Pass the turn-offs to the MSM golf club & ski hill. Chemin du Lac Ste. Marie turns into chemin Grand Poisson Blanc (you don’t need to turn off it) which brings you to our driveway. The detailed directions (see google map directions) are:

• From Ottawa, cross to Hull (zero your odometer here for tracking) and take Hwy 5N (Pontiac, Maniwaki) through Hull until it ends.

• When Hwy 5 ends, follow the well-marked zig zag (quick right & left) to connect with Highway 105. Continue on Hwy 105N (LaPeche, Maniwaki) for about 50 km. You will have the Gatineau River on your right. 

• Follow the signs to the Mont Ste. Marie resort. It is very undeveloped & dark at night along here. You will go through the small towns of Brennan’s Hill, Low (54 km), Gracefield, Venosta (63 km). If you get to Kazabazua, you have gone too far so turn around.

• Turn right off of Hwy 105 onto chemin du lac-Ste. Marie (72 km). There is a sign here but it is easy to miss. There is a building with an orange roof that says it sells lights & fans (but I think it’s a front for some money laundering as I’ve never seen it open!) & an interesting collection of items for sale on the left hand side of the highway here.

• Go through the small town of Lac-Ste. Marie (78 km). At the end of town, turn right and cross a bridge to stay on ch. lac Ste. Marie (81 km).

• You will pass the golf course (84 km) and within 5 minutes, come to a sign for the resort, which you will continue past.. You will go up a hill, go past a small lake on the left of the road and come to a Y junction. Turn left here onto chemin grand poisson blanc which is a gravel road.

• Immediately after the first hydro pole on the left side of the road (3-400 m), turn into our small, not well-marked driveway, flanked with red fence posts. There might be cars parked up top here.
